It has always been assumed that PLM for SMEs must be some kind of "stripped down" or "lite" version of what large corporations apply.

This is a fallacy.  SMEs need a very specific approach that is tailored to their role in the product ecosystem and their internal ways of working.

The PLM Handbook for SMEs sets out a practical methodology by which SMEs can adopt and maintain PLM, meeting their Customers' PLM requirements while retaining their particular strengths.
