PLM Permeation Concept - Standard Introduction
It can be hard for a PLM team to tell if their implementation is having a full effect. The team tends to work in areas of "low hanging fruit", where PLM might be easiest to apply; and to work in areas of the company that are most receptive to PLM ideas. For full PLM to be achieved, across a 5-year or 10-year timeframe, then PLM must be implemented equally everywhere, and it must work equally well everywhere. The PLM concept that helps to quantify this was first identified in the PLM Maturity Reference Manual, where it became clear that you can measure PLM maturity close to head office and get a high score, without having any impact on the further reaches of the organisation. Application
The PLM team maps the adoption of PLM across the extended enterprise and applies metrics and maturity assessements to determine progress in each area. The documented results will show the PLM Permeation and highlight the areas that most need improvement. The aim is to get an even, high level of PLM progress across all parts of the enterprise, and to maintain that progress evenly into the future. Definition
